ubc student conducting experiments in fumehood

After a common first year, students entering the Materials Engineering program build on the foundation of math, chemistry and physics acquired during first year.

The next three years provide a structured training in materials knowledge and engineering skills.  In the final year, students have the opportunity to specialize further, with options in:

– Manufacturing and performance,
– Minerals and metals extraction, and
– Biomaterials engineering.

In addition to foundational and specialized knowledge, many alumni have found that skills emphasized during the program have been valuable during their career, with 92% citing communication skills as important in their work. Working with others and project management were also key skills many said they got good experience in during their time in MTRL and that have been useful in the workplace.
