Info for Grads
There are four options for graduate studies:
Master of Applied Science (MASc), for students with a BASc in Engineering, or the Master of Science (MSc), for students with a BSc in Science. Both the MASc and the MSc are research-based degrees requiring the completion of 18 credits of coursework, at least 12 of which must be at the graduate level, and a research thesis. An MASc/MSc degree should normally take 18 to 24 months to complete.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) which requires the completion of coursework, a qualifying examination, the development and defense of a research proposal, and the completion and defense of a research thesis. The number of credits of coursework required depends on the student’s prior background and the nature of the intended research project. A student’s selection of courses will be made in consultation with the student’s supervisory committee. A PhD degree should normally take 36 to 48 months to complete.
Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL): this is a professional program focused on Advanced Materials Manufacturing (AMM) for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in APPLIED SCIENCE and/or ENGINEERING as well as industrial experience in the manufacturing sector. The AMM MEL requires students take 18 credits of advanced course work related to materials manufacturing and 12 credits of course work related to professional leadership development over 12 months. The MEL Program runs from January-December exclusively
The department offers opportunities for study in the fields of casting and solidification of metals, ceramic processes and properties, corrosion, composite material processing and properties, hydrometallurgy and electrorefining, physical metallurgy, pyrometallurgy, remelting processes, thermomechanical processing and environmental processing.
