Key Points

*Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada

*Must have an OVERALL (Years 1 to current) GPA of 68%

*Must have completed at least one year of your BASc degree.

*If you are graduating in May 2018 you ARE still eligible to apply.9

* You must be available for a minimum 16 week period.

The department minimum pay scales are as follows:

Current 4th Year: $9600 for the period

Current 3rd Year: $8800 for the period

Current 2nd Year: $8000 for the period

Work Learn Int’l Undergraduate Research Award

Designed for International Undergraduate students who are interested in research, the Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards subsidizes professors to hire students to work on their research projects. The program provides students with workplace experience through undergraduate research opportunities, particularly for students interested in research as a career.

PAY SCALES

International Students – Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Award

Students will hold the awards preferably during the summer term for roughly full-time work.

  • These awards have a value of $4,500. This amount will be reimbursed to your project supervisor’s account. Supervisors are required to pay a minimum wage over 16 weeks (inclusive of 4% vacation pay), as well as benefits (CPP, EI, WCB) amounting to approximately 7.48%. For more information on value and paymentplease refer to the Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards webpage.
  • Awards will be allocated to the Faculty of Applied Science based on the current enrollment numbers of undergraduate international students.
  • Students must have a B- 68% cumulative GPA and have completed a minimum of first year or two terms.
  • Apply directly to the APSC Dean’s Office, not to their department as the domestic NSERC USRA students do.
  • Any Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering faculty member with a funding can agree to be the research supervisor.
  • Email the PDF form and PDF format scans of any non-UBC transcripts to pd@ubc.ca.
  • Deadline for Summer 2019 awards: Monday, March 4, 2019 at 4:00pm(application information will be available starting January 2019).
